Your study path after you pass the 12th decides your career path. It can be a difficult decision to make. Should you opt for a diploma of two or three years and get into a job, taking up a degree course thereafter? Should you take the long and arduous path to a Masters or a Ph.D. leading to a top paying job? Should you consider a Business degree from a top institution or go in for finance or marketing? Should you consider a technical degree or pursue the IT path? Should you go for a public university or opt for private universities that are expensive but offer quality education? Does the course suit you and will you succeed? These are a few of the many questions that face you when you are on the threshold of your life. Here are a few tips on the courses you can take after the 12th:

B.Sc. degree course in Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology or Physics leading the way to a Masters and a Ph.D. thereafter. You can get admissions in a number of universities and go on to jobs as teachers or in industry.
B.E. Engineering degrees in Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Electronics, computers, aeronautics, biomedical, automobile, dairy, environment, food, Nano technology, robotics, textiles and software lead you to specialization and jobs in industry.
In Commerce you could specialize in Accounting and Finance, in Banking and Insurance, in Computer Applications, Taxation and study to become a chartered accountant or a company secretary with bright job prospects in business organizations across India.
Students in the Arts stream can go on to gain a degree in languages, in economics, fine arts, history, philosophy, politics, psychology, public administration, sociology, journalism, advertising, mass communication, media, fashion designing, hotel management, catering, and others that lead to promising careers in specialist segments related to qualifications.
Go for BBA or Bachelor of Business Administration, followed by an MBA course in leading institutions in all States, getting you high paid jobs as professionals in industry.
If you have the talent and inclination you can consider a degree in Architecture, in Fashion design, join the National Institute of Design and become a sought after professional in design, specialize in media and film making and get lucrative positions in TV and film industry.
Travel, tourism and hotel management are also promising fields which also give you an opportunity to travel around the world as you work.
Consider a degree in Retail management. The retail sector is opening up and you are assured of a well paying job in this segment.
Get a degree in law to set up your independent practice or become a legal consultant.
Get a degree in any stream and follow it up with a B.Ed. that gets you a job as a teacher in the growing number of schools across the country.
Pharmaceuticals is another fast growing sector and by studying for B. Pharma followed by an M. Pharma., you get jobs in leading pharmaceutical organizations
Information Technology is the hot favorite and by specializing in software or hardware the doors are open in multinationals in India as well as abroad.
It is tough but if you get a high percentage, you can gain admission to a medical school and become a doctor with prospects of high income and a status in society.
